Will Siegfried
Managing Director, Investment Director, Planning Assistant, Trader
10 years ago in 2012, Will Siegfried joined the VAP internship program. And he’s still here.
His unpaid internship turned into a paid internship while he was attending the business program at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ, and playing high-level Junior college baseball, where he was named NJCAA All- Northeast Pitcher in 2012. After being recruited to play baseball and study business finance at the University of Delaware, Will continued with VAP. Sometimes he worked on projects and presented them remotely and other times he worked in person with David in the Red Bank office. In his first season at Delaware Will injured his pitching arm and gave up his professional baseball aspirations. Baseball’s loss was David’s and VAP clients’ gain.
Will’s main role here, besides being investment director is compliance and operations. He navigates the complex, and ever-changing, regulatory landscape. Will also supervises internal accounting, financial statement production, external audits, and the operational side of our business, which includes the use of all our research and planning tools like Bloomberg, NETX 360 from Pershing Advisor Solutions, Slack, and eMoney Advisor.
As investment director, he oversees the VAP investment process by researching and valuing shares of great companies, monitoring the performance of clients’ portfolios, and measuring and monitoring the performance and valuation of a consistent lineup of candidate companies. He updates fair values for portfolio companies and for companies that are in the pipeline. He uses unique tax loss harvesting tools to minimize taxes paid by our SMA clients and our hedge fund partners.
Also, as a trader, Will executes stock and option orders from David for our client portfolios and VAP’s hedge fund using NETX 360’s and Folio Institutional’s unique online trading platforms, and by communicating directly with the trading desks and back offices of our brokers. He’s also responsible for the VAP’s research budget and the soft dollars generated by the hedge fund.
Our VAP clients love talking to Will and asking him to solve problems. He sets up accounts, transfers money, transfers IRAs, 401ks, and other brokerage accounts, monitors beneficiary designations, and adjusts financial plans.
It’s forming and maintaining the relationships with our clients and prospects that Will enjoys the most about the business. Will is committed to delivering massive value to our clients at every touch point.
When away from the office, Will offers time and support to LADACIN Network, a non-profit agency whose mission is to provide a continuum of care for infants, children, and adults with complex physical and developmental disabilities or delays. As the Co-Chair of the LADACIN Network’s fundraising committee, Will has helped grow LADACIN to serve over 3,500 individuals and families across 14 facilities in Monmouth and Ocean County.
A self-diagnosed golf addict with a single-digit handicap, Will has channeled his passion for the game into volunteering recently for the PGA of America’s FIRST TEE Program, helping grow the game he loves by getting younger generations involved. But his giving using his golf addiction does not stop there. He raises money and participates in many annual charity golf events like LADACIN wRAT Rock Open’s, Hockey in Middletown’s, NoLimitsCafe’s, Our House Foundation’s, and The Bobby Scholl Foundation’s charity golf tournaments.
Like David and Daniel, Will attended Middletown High School South (“MHSS”) where he lettered in baseball and basketball. In baseball, he was a 2011 Star-Ledger All-State Selection, the Shore Conference Pitcher of the Year, and led the MHSS baseball team to a State Sectional Title & Monmouth County Championships. Will also led the MHSS basketball team to the first Shore Conference Championship game since 1979 in 2010.
Will lives in Wall Township, where he is happily married to his wife Julia. She is a member of the NJ Bar and is employed as a contract attorney for the software company Cribl.
