Continuity in a Clinton presidency would have brought us more of the same economic policies we have had since 2006 when the Democrats took over Congress, and then the Presidency in 2008.
How well has the economy done over that period?
Using the best measure of economic progress, Real Gross Domestic Product per Capita (Person), the economy has not done so well. That is the reason most of the country when polled says the U.S. is on the “wrong track”.
Think of this measure as the “perfect equality” measure. Every person in the United States gets exactly the same share of the country’s collective annual income. On that basis, the US economy is not doing so well for this generation. The graph above shows the percentage change from a decade earlier in our measure of economic well-being. Since the Democrats took over congress in 2006, our standard of living has dramatically decreased.
